The Weight of Words: A Journey from Hurt to Healing

I will never forget the day my mother looked me in my eyes and called me useless.

I was 7 at the time, and all I wanted was to make her proud.

I remember not long after, I was marked with bruises.

Bruises from not trying hard enough and doing everything wrong.

She would raise her voice and yell really loud, “This is why your dad left.”

After that I didn’t make a sound.

Everyone looks at me and calls me strong, yet something deep down tells me they’re wrong.

You see this was the hand I was dealt in life, even though her words cut deeper than a knife.

I am now nineteen and I’ve moved away, but not having her around makes me feel grey.

Celestial Whispers

The trees will soon be green, and the flowers will start to bloom.

Every night, I’m talking to the moon.

I look up in the sky and see a bright shining star.

Whenever I look at it, I say “there you are.”

When things go wrong, I try to look for you.

Some way, some how, you always send me a clue.

This life without you is very rough.

Because of you, I’ve become very tough.

I miss you my love.

From,

Your sweet little dove

Beyond Pink: Resilience in Womanhood

I’m a woman.

My favorite color is pink and I love butterflies and flowers.

But you don’t care, you want to see my flower.

You don’t want to get to know me at all.

Instead you want to make me feel small.

You want me to open my legs and make me plead, ask, and beg.

Are you sober, or did you just drink from a keg?

You wont remember this in the morning.

So here is your forewarning.

Just because I am a woman, it doesn’t mean I’m a cushion.
